Junior Football Organiser Course

The Cross Borough Tournament also provided an excellent training opportunity for those football players wanting to break into coaching or refereeing. The course is a training scheme designed to give young people aged between 14-18 years skills in leading safe football related activities. It is the first step for a young person to move onto the FA coaching ladder and covers planning/organising sessions for 6-11 year old children, refereeing mini soccer games organising and administering a festival for young children. All who participated received a certificate from the FA.

 

Sport Coaching


The Academy of Sport East London, in association with The Peabody Trust and Elevate, run a year round Saturday club for young people aged 7-12. The sessions are developed around individual needs and consist of warm up/ down, the development of skills, technical aspects and stretching.  Professional techniques are used and the emphasis is on fun and enjoyment.

A girl's only event was run for the second time in February 2006 at the Brittania Leisure Centre. Coaching sessions were available in football, basketball and boxercise. It is hoped that this will be repeated in 2007.

Fully qualified UEFA/ FA & IAA coaches staff these sessions.

 

Eductional Workshops

Food, Fun & Nutrition: The Academy of Sport East London has also started to run a 32 week course for young people aged between 8 -16 years.  The course comprises of football, fitness & flexibility run by Tottenham Hotspur coach & scout Leslie Fevrier and Michael McFarlane of UK Athletics.

A Food & Nutrition course, consisting of theoretical & practical lessons is being run by Yinka Thomas, a qualified Food & Nutritionist who works for Hackney Schools. They are also holding sessions covering socially relevant subjects, such as Antisocial Behaviour, Youth & Gun Crime, Self Esteem & Bullying.  These will be run by Kim Ngo who spent the summer at Camp Mendocino (for disadvantaged young people) and Fort Bragg- California as a Counsellor.
