Speak Out - Elevate's Youth Conference
On 10th February 2006, 50 young people from three London Borough's, Newham, Lewisham and Hackney, were given the opportunity to set the agenda for the charity.

The purposes of the consultation were to:

  • Enable young people between the ages of 14-19 to play a key role in implementing real change in their own lives and in their community;
  • Involve young people in setting the agenda and direction of the charity and how it is run – including developing ideas for projects and helping to implement them after the conference;
  • Maximise the value of the event as a building block for future events and participation and find young people who would be interested in acting on an advisory board for the charity
  • Give young people the opportunity to enjoy 3 or 4 hours after the workshops at a place many would not have had the opportunity to visit otherwise. We are holding the day at the Milton Keynes Snowdome – facilities include real snow slopes for skiing/boarding lessons

The conference and its associated activities worked towards:

  • Involving as diverse a range of young people as possible in order to empower them to take decisions about their futures and the future of Elevate itself
  • Providing a forum for consultation and interaction for young people particularly aimed at those who are more socially excluded
  • Establishing what major issues affect the young people and creating an action plan identifying their aspirations and the specific skills or support they need to attain these;
